The Dilly is the best starting point for tours and hikes in the national park, both in summer and in winter. Rangers show guests where to find wild animals, take you to places full of flowers or into the fascinating underworld of the Limestone Alps. But Upper Austria’s longest walkable rock gorge is just a stone’s throw away.

17 bat species, 1500 different butterflies, rare bugs and countless native forest bird species represent just a small extract from the list. The most prominent returnee is probably the lynx. And where else can you feed the red deer in winter or hike with white donkeys, of which there are only 200 in the world?

Of the 927 plant species identified so far, some are on the Red List. Not only the 42 wild growing and sometimes very rare orchids are special – the beech forests are a recognised UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. With the oldest known beech tree in Europe, the national park is setting a record when it comes to plants.
