The Dilly is situated at the heart of the Pyhrn-Priel hiking region. Could there be a better starting point for your active holiday in Upper Austria? Hardly. Whether you go at a gentle or an energetic pace, uphill or cross-country through exciting gorges or across lush meadows – Windischgarsten has everything.
CONSCIOUSLY CHANGING PERSPECTIVES
Hiking in Windischgarsten – this means pure nature, diversity, freedom and happiness. Our proximity to the Limestone Alps National Park, Sengsen Mountains and the Totes Gebirge (Dead Mountains) allows you to enjoy unforgettable hikes and mountain tours. You can take on just under 600 kilometres of signposted hiking paths: themed and circular walks, natural adventure paths, buggy-accessible walking trails, challenging summit tours, via ferrata – and the Dilly is right at the heart of all this.
Your efforts will even be rewarded twice: with breath-taking views and a hearty snack. About 40 farmed alpine pastures and rustic huts will spoil you with homemade curd cheese, heavenly Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake) and much more. The Pyhrn-Priel holiday region’s hikers taxi will bring you to the start point of your hike or take you back from your destination.
THROUGH WILD FORESTS AND GORGES
The very popular nature trail walk starts just a few minutes on foot away from the hotel and leads through ancient forests with mighty firs and old yew trees. At various stations, you will learn astonishing facts about the inhabitants of the national park. Beavers, lynx, golden eagles and co. also appreciate the unspoilt nature. You may well come across one of them on your way.
The Dr. Vogelgesang Gorge, Upper Austria's longest accessible rock gorge, also starts just a few minutes' drive away. Surrounded by steep rock faces, you need to conquer around 500 wooden and stone steps but will be rewarded with spectacular views of thundering waterfalls.
